Peter Paul Rubens
This is a painting by Peter Paul Rubens of a classic story of Perseus saving Andromeda, on his horse Pegasus from the sea monster, 1622. Rubens makes this situation so graceful. Even though there is a hurry to free Andromeda before the sea monster comes, the atmosphere is so peaceful. I don't quite understand the angels helping but it makes it even more peaceful. Horses are so beautiful and graceful. The pose Ruben puts Pegasus in works so well. I am so amazed of his ability to recreate human anatomy with paint, and the muscles on the horse are rendered so perfectly. The composition is interesting; I noticed that Perseus's helmet dressing curves towards Andromeda. Also, Pegasus's wings curves towards her too. I find this painting very eye pleasing because of the color, composition, and the way it tells the story. Rubens's skill in human anatomy inspire me.

A very nice piece indeed! You have pointed out some very interesting compositional choices. It would be fun to see you recreate a mythical scene with your illustration skills. You, indeed, have many of the skills that Reuben himself must have shown early in his learning. Keep looking at the masters and learning from their style.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joyce, That sounds like a fun idea! I never knew Renaissance paintings had so much symbolism. It makes the paintings very amusing. When i do my own, I will defiantly use symbolism.
