Grant Wood
This painting has a calm feeling to it. It is a little dull but that makes it feel old. It seems like it is a cartoon rather than real life. There are very suddle shapes used it almost seems like it is made from clay. Like in the bushes and trees there is a repletion of shapes. This painting could be 3D but also could be flat at the same time. My favorite thing about this painting is the composition. Its laid out like a close up on a rose. The more i look at it, I can make out objects within the trees and fields. I chose this painting because it reminded me of the puzzles that my grandmother and I used to do. I can see how this was pleasing in this time period because it is just a releaf, clam, very plain.

It strikes me as more of an illustration or scenery art of an animation film. It has a very distinct style to it, which I like. I swear I've seen illustrations in books just like this...I'll have to figure that one out (?). However, I agree, it has a very plain, calm vibe, yet seems as though it's just waiting to be animated with it's almost three dimensional edge.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I like your reasoning behind why you chose this piece. ^_^
Don't you love those spherical bushes on the right. Like ice cream dots lol Organization:)
ReplyDeleteSuch a treat to see something fun here! I love this! It has a primitive early American yet new illustrative feel. Even the colors choices are different but work well. The perspective feels oddly off but is totally believable.
ReplyDeleteThis painting is peaceful, and I agree it looks like an illistration.
ReplyDeleteI agree in that it looks like a backdrop for a cartoon, possibly Looney Tunes (the original, not the one that's on today). I can definitely see this as a background for an animation. It is calm and the muted colors make it recede.
ReplyDeletethe thing that i find most interesting about this piece is fact that the foreground seems to be like three d but the background is very flat and almost seems like its just a wall of with scenery on it like a backdrop. ALso it's kinda strange how the perspective is off like the houses seem tilted.
